Bebeteca:
the importance of a structured space to young readers' development

This paper aims to reflect on the importance of bebetecas for the development of children aged 0 to 3, enlightened by the theoretical premises of Cultural- Historical Psychology, focusing on the relevance of the space’s organization for humanization, learning and development of the higher psychic functions of the small child. Being a qualitative bibliographic and field research, in order to perform a critical analysis of a bebeteca in a city in the interior of the state of Parana, Brazil, highlighting the implications of the adequate structure and organization of the bebeteca to meet the specificities of small children, this paper was based on authors such as Vygotski (1988), Luria (1988), Leontiev (2004), Dominico and Lira (2022) and other theorists. Results demonstrated the importance of the bebeteca to child development. We advocate for a bebeteca safe for babies, with organized books, furniture and objects to promote opportunities for their complete development
