The objective of this research is to demystify conceptions of evaluation and their uses, based on didactic and evaluation works, and the guiding question is: What is the conception of evaluation and its functions that the authors of didactic works present? The work was developed through bibliographic research of a qualitative character. The results indicate a lack of clarity about the concepts of evaluation, confusing it with research or data collection, which do not constitute evaluation in themselves, but are moments in which they are carried out in the pedagogical process. Therefore, students do not carry out assessments, but do tests, exams, tests and surveys.
