Abstract

Starting with characterizations performed with the aid of a rotational rheometer, numerous characterizations of non-Newtonian fluids were obtained. Stress Sweep, time sweep, step change, flow curve and creep were made for Carbopol base water at a concentration of 0.1% and a viscous cap from the Petroleum Industry. Both characterized fluids adapted to the Hershey-buckley model and there was an evidence of the thixotropic effects and viscoelastic effects close to the shear stress limit. A comparative analysis was also performed between Carbopol base water and Carbopol base glycerin and it was noted that a greater amount of Carbopol powder is required in the second case so that both fluids reach the same shear stress limit.
