Reading and amateur writing in social media

This paper presents results of a research in which we discuss relationships between reading and writing in digital media and their interfaces with the democratization of literacy practices. Our data results from a digital ethnographic investigation (Pink et al, 2016) that we performed in the platform Wattpad. We searched it for stories that were written, shared, and commented by female amateur writers and that were also addressed to female readers. The analysis is grounded on discussions about Literacies (Monte Mór, 2017) and Bakhtin’s (2016), Vaddes’s (2017) and Viires (2005) ideas, amongst others.
