Diagnostic study on the perception and emotions related to environmental awareness among Primary Education students

This study analyzes environmental awareness among 4th to 6th grade students (9-12 years old) in Extremadura through a questionnaire integrating knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and emotions. It is a non-experimental mixed-methods research, combining descriptive-comparative quantitative analysis with qualitative exploration. Results show that students associate sustainability with everyday actions such as recycling or saving resources, and express emotions like concern, curiosity, and joy when facing environmental challenges. Although positive attitudes prevail, limited knowledge about sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals is observed. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for comprehensive environmental education that integrates cognitive, emotional, and ethical dimensions, aiming to transform attitudes into sustainable practices from an early age.
