Young teachers
the future of the profession
Keywords:
Teacher education. Professional induction. Young teachers. Teaching professionality.Abstract
The text focuses on young teachers, arguing that they are central to the future of the profession. After a beginning, in which reference is made to the inspiration in Michael Huberman's studies, the first part of the text refers to the importance of the professional induction period, as an “in-between time”, between initial teacher education and the full exercise of the profession. The second part repeats some ideas aligned in six points that seem simple, but maybe they are not, about the professional development of teachers. Finally, in the third part, universities are invited to become seriously involved in teacher education and professional teacher induction. In a brief conclusion, emphasis is placed on the importance of young teachers for the renewal and future of the teaching profession.
